QIF transfers

Gnucash:
I recently installed Mdk 9.1, with Gnucash 1.8.1. previously, I had used 
Gnucash 1.6.2. It imported all the qif files wonderfully.
Not so this time, the new Gnucash imported the files, but the balances are 
way, way, off, and a lot of the transactions (mainly splits) are all messed 
up. Any suggestions?
