GnuCash 1.8.1-4 and RedHat 9: Error in main.scm

Yes, GnuCash should definitely handle this problem.  However it works
fine for me without a LANG, so this is not inherently a GnuCash issue.
I suspect this is either a Red Hat 9 issue, or more likely a Guile-1.6
issue.
