saving to floppy

Tim:
I tried urpmi -v --test --no-deps, it didn't work. So, I'll just stay with
1.8.1 and hunt around a bit. NOt really any real need right now to upgrade,
the present version works great

Ray,

Oh, man. GnuCash if a great app, but one of the toughest Linux apps
to install or upgrade properly. At this point, since you've gotten
everything imported into GunCash 1.8.1 correctly, unless you really
need the features of 1.8.2 I'd just stay with 1.8.1. I'm still
running 1.6.5 quite happily.
Similar things happen with Windoze, where installing on thing breaks
another, etc. At least with Linux, you can test things and it will tell
you something about what's wrong instead of just popping up an error
message with no info or doing the install and stupidly breaking stuff.

But if you really must upgrade...

 > "libgnucash0 >= 1.8.2-1mdk is needed by gnucash-1.8.2-1mdk"

This doesn't really make sense, since you're installing 1.8.2-1mdk,
the package that at least seems like it should have the file it's
asking for. A Catch 22? It could be an error, or...?
You have some other things you can try...I'm assuming here you don't
already have 1.8.1 installed...remember,
#rpm -ivh (package)
is for installing a new package,
#urpmi -v (package)
is for upgrading an existing one.

1. Try this:

#rpm -ivh --test --nodeps gnucash-1.8.2-1mdk.i586.rpm (or whatever the
exact pacakge name is).

This will ingore dependencies. It seems you only have the one, and
it sounds like it should be satisfied by the 1.8.2 package, so like I
said, this could be a mistake that can be ignored.
It still checks for conflicts with other files/packages, so it if that
test is ok, you should be able to do the install without breaking
anything else on your system, but GnuCash may not work. You'll just
have to try to see.

2. Install 1.8.1, then upgrade to 1.8.2 with:

#urpmi -v --test gnucash-1.8.2-1mdk.i586.rpm

If it passes --test, you should be ok.

3. Try to satisfy the dependency yourself with another package. This
can get very tricky, time consuming and even frustrating, however. I
don't recommend it until you're more comfortable with Linux.
There are sites where you can search for and download rpms. This is
one of my favorites:
http://rpmfind.net/linux/RPM/index.html.
There are others, some dedicated mainly to Mandrake like Penguin
Liberation Front, Texstar, etc. You can Google your way around to a
bunch of rpm download sites.
Anyway, if you want to try it, do a search for the libgnucash0 file
and see what comes up. Be sure to download a package with a version
late enough for your purposes, and try and stick to Mandrake rpms (or
whatever distro you're using at the time).

Get back to me if you have more questions.
