Can gnucash do online banking?

Can gnucash to online banking of any kind?

If not are there plans to do so?

I know about moneydance but it seems quite unfinished
looking at their web site.

I'd much prefer a Linux online banking solution.

I was just forced to change from a nice simple DOS program using Checkfree
to Quicken 2003 Premier - a bloated and buggy dog.
Checkfree made some sort of deal that forces all of their customers 
to use Quicken and no longer supports their own online banking programs.
