As I said in response to Derek's post, at some level, it's whatever
works for both of you.

In fairness to my description, I have to remember that it was actually
my wife who suggested we combine accounts before we were married.
There is, of course, *no* need or requirement to combine accounts.
It's just the level of accounting you wanted to keep that seems odd to
me.  But I'm not you, so whatever works for the two of you....
