I'm not sure a popup is reasonable -- there are lots of potentially
unknown types out there.  However reporting it to the user is certainly
a reasonable request (and one that the new importer should do).

Dealing with accented characters is a known UI issue.  Hopefully
the gnome2 port will help, as it supports UTF8 natively.
