trouble with transaction reports

I dont know what to tell you... going to Reports -> Transaction Report
works for me both in my test data.
In my real data it comes up with the "No matching transactions found",
but the report works fine once I adjust the accounts. In particular,
I need to select the actual accounts being pulled into the report for
it to work. Specifically, it does not select subaccounts by default.
So the top-level accounts that it chooses by default don't contain any
transactions... So it's not bringing anything into the report.
Once I actually choose an account (or accounts) with transactions then
it works fine.
