having problems installing gnucash-1.8.2

I am running a slackware-current(9.0beta) box, which was a bare minimal 
install, I only really installed the compiler, and what was needed to 
boot the box, then from there I have built the system entirely from 
source.  I have installed gnome 2.2.0, and am not trying gnucash-1.8.2. 
Here is a snippit from the output I get from the ./configure script:

checking if guile needs our copy of srfi-9... yes
checking if guile needs our copy of (guile www)... yes
checking for gnome-config... no
configure: error: Could not find gnome-config

I have searched on the web for info on gnome-config, on my system I have 
a gnome-config.h, but that I guess is not what gnucash is looking for 
for a build?  Thanks in advance.
