Postgres back end enbabled?

Also, there should be a README in the gnucash-backend-postgres package. 
If not there, it's in the source tarball under
src/backend/postgres/README.  Definitely does not support the new 1.8.x
functionality (i.e., Scheduled Transactions, Business objects).
