Gnucash hangs

Dear Experts,
I am using GnuCash 1.8.1 on a Mandrake 9.1 system (the version that 
came with the distribution). Everything used to go very well; 
suddendly the program hangs after running it. Running from a terminal 
window, I get this message, repeated in loop until I hit a Control-c:

Error: create_each_transaction_he...(): Null kvp_val for account
Error: create_each_transaction_he...(): Unable to find common 
currency/commodity.

The problema affects the file, I think, not the program itself, 
because running with the --nofile option the program loads correctly. 
If, using the --nofile option, I try to load the most recent file, or 
any other one (I keep the files of the last week) I get the same 
fload of messages.
