More problems with installing 1.8.7

I keep running into a guile failure - the config script halts with the 
'Guile is either not installed or was not installed properly' error.

The baffling thing about this is, Guile is exactly where the config 
script says it expects to find it - the version is 1.6.0 - and, for some 
strange reason, the install of Gnucash 1.8.1 didn't have any problem 
with this and it runs just fine.
