Multiple currencies in one account

I am wondering why we need to restrict every account to a single 
currency. For example, my wallet might contain both Australian and US 
Dollars, or I might have some sales for product X in New Zealand dollars 
and some in Australian dollars.

I realize that you can easily create sub-accounts in multiple 
currencies, but am wondering if we really need that restriction.
