can't get gnucash to load

Hi, I have been running gnucash for many years now. I run a debian sid
distrobution, and the otherday, after updating some packages (I'm not
sure exactly which one, but it was quite a few), gnucash stopped
working. 

I have removed the packages, downloaded the source tarballs for version
1.8.8, and compiled, but I still get the same error when I try to run. 

Here is what I get:

I really don't know what is breaking gnucash, but if anyone has any
suggestions, please let me know.
