Newer versions are much better.  For RH9 just download the updated
packages from http://people.redhat.com/notting/gnucash/ and then

  rpm -Uvh /path/to/downloaded/gnucash...rpm

The version in RH9 (1.8.1) is EXTREMELY buggy.
