Retained Earnings

Hi,

I'm using 1.8.8 version of GnuCash on RH 9.0. While preparing the year end balance sheet report I got struck with "Retained Earnings" getting listed wrongly on Balance Sheet. In the options of balance sheet I gave the start date as 1st Apr 2003 and end date as 31st Mar 2004. Net profit is getting listed correct (same as I'm having in my P & L report), but I'm getting some -ve figure for the Retained Earning.

I will like to understand how Gnucash is calculating "Reatined Earning". Can someone help me with this?
