Handling stock in Gnucash

Hi,
I am yet to find a good way to handle stocks. I want to record brokerages separately so that I can track the cost of each transaction. I also want brokerages and dividends to be included when calculating the returns (in the advanced portfolio report). Has anyone done something similar? If yes, how?
