If you want to run 1.8.9 in Debian, you will have to get the
Experimental version of libtldl3, since the testing/unstable
version is (relative to gnucash) buggy.  Libltdl3_1.6 and libltdl3-dev_1.6
are OK for i386 only, last I looked (3 or 4 days ago).

Run gnucash 1.8.8
