Thanks for your response. I tried the RH rpm among others available for
version 1.8.10 since SuSE rpms are not available. I have tried a few
combinations of rpms of gnucash, g-wrap and guile. I run into circularly
irreconcilable dependency failures. Totally confused. Surprisingly, the
original install of gnucash 1.8.0 by SuSE 8.2 dos not have g-wrap. Either way
trying to track down suitable rpms for all the deps listed on the gnucash
install page has been an exercise in futility.

Tried upgrade to 1.8.8 using the SuSE 8.2 rpm from rpm.pbone.net:

# rpm -Uvh --test gnucash-1.8.8-0.pm.6.i586.rpm
error: failed dependencies:
        openhbci >= 0.9.13 is needed by gnucash-1.8.8-0.pm.6
        gnucash-docs is needed by gnucash-1.8.8-0.pm.6
        libopenhbci.so.12 is needed by gnucash-1.8.8-0.pm.6

# rpm -Uvh --test gnucash-docs-1.8.3-0.pm.0.i586.rpm
error: failed dependencies:
        gnucash >= 1.8.0 is needed by gnucash-docs-1.8.3-0.pm.0

Installed gnucash-1.8.0 through YaST2

# rpm -Uvh gnucash-docs-1.8.3-0.pm.0.i586.rpm
gnucash-docs                ##################################################

# rpm -Uvh --test openhbci-0.9.13-1.i586.suse82.rpm
error: failed dependencies:
        libopenhbci.so.6 is needed by gnucash-1.8.0-30

# rpm -e --test gnucash
error: removing these packages would break dependencies:
        gnucash >= 1.8.0 is needed by gnucash-docs-1.8.3-0.pm.0

:-e

I give up unless someone has a suggestion? Installing from source is not an
option I would like to try due to my limited knowledge. My hats off to the
developers who are maintaining such a complex software. OTOH, is simplifying
installation by reduced deps somewhere on the developement map or is gnuCash
install to forever be in the realm of the distro makers and other gurus?

Merry Christmas to all.
