problem recovering data

You don't need to export anything -- just move the data file.

What version were you running before?  What version are you running
now?

File->Export wouldn't help you..  If you didn't migrate your data file
off the old disk, your data is gone..  It's not like GnuCash could
magically pull it out of the ether.
