Importing File from Bank

I have Gnucash 1.8 as supplied with Mandrake 10. My bank can download account information in QIF, Money or cvs. Gnucash refuses to convert either Quicken of Money files- - -"needs a later version of Gnucash".  I could use the cvs download, but that would require hand posting each transaction. Is there any way to automatically tranfer bank  into Gnucash?
