If you are trying to see a path with a . in it (e.g.
"/home/user/.gnucash/myfile") you will need to use "ls -a" (the -a
switch shows all files/directories, including hidden ones, which start
with a '.')  "ls -al" gives you everything in a long format with added info.

Is that perhaps what you were looking for?
