Carrying over entries to new account

Hello,

How can I carry over entries to a new gnucash account?

What I want to do for my checking account is, at the end of the month, 
carry over the ending balance and any outstanding (unreconciled) checks 
to a new monthly account.

In order to do this, I see the following steps:

    --- create a template for a monthly account with only the categories 
that I need;
    --- removing all the reconciled entries;
    --- saving the result as a new account OR importing it into a new 
account.

How can I do this --- I see nothing in gnucash that allows me to select 
multiple entries for processing nor anything that allows carrying over 
entries into a new account.
