custom reports and FAQ discontinuity

Regarding custom reports, the FAQ says in part:

"and don't forget to register it in report-list.scm in 
/usr/local/share/gnucash/scm/report/".

But there is no such file anywhere on my hard drive, much less in the 
normal gnucash trees.  Should that file have been created for the 
already defined reports? Any guesses what I might do to fix my system?

The first version of gnucash I used was the MacOS 1.8.8 binary 
installed with fink. I then compiled 1.8.9 from the unstable fink 
collection.
