upgrading Gnucash 1.8.8 on FreeBSD 4.10

Is that as simple as removing the old application and
then installing the new one and starting it?
Or am I missing something completely here?

I'm using freebsd 4.10 and I accidentilly removed an
library, so my old gnucash 1.8.8 won't start again. As
I was thinking of upgrading, I thought maybe this is
the right moment to do it.
