I'm blaming slackware for dropping their support.  Gnome made it
perfectly capable of co-installing gnome-1.4 and gnome-2, but
slackware decided not to include both versions.  So I blame slackware
for not distributing the dependencies anymore.  This is not gnucash's
fault.  All other Distros still support gnucash + gnome-1.4.  Only
slackware (and RHEL) do not.

Wow.  Now I'm impressed.  I'm impressed that so many people are
willing to shoot themselves in the foot using a distribution that's
effectively not maintained.  There's no way one person can maintain a
full distribution in any competent manner.  Wow.
