I leave it there.  I have nearly 4 years of transactions in just under 3 MB.  
Startup time on my old (300 MHz) machine was long enough to be annoying, but 
I only launch GnuCash once or twice a week.  On a 1.6 GHz computer, start-up 
time is under 10 seconds.
