CVS Head compile

This is just the first of many such errors that you would see from your setup. 
The error is not limited to this directory, let alone this file.

why have you had to do this? The error is complaining of redefinitions so it 
looks like you've got a bad installation in /opt/gnome/ - possibly because 
you've also got Gnome installed in /usr/ as well?

Which distribution?
