Huh.  I don't recall getting this error -- or any, in fact -- when I
emerged 1.8.9 or .10.

FTR: 1.8.11 is available; but since this problem is in a dependent
package, that probably doesn't matter...

In any case, you should probably raise this issue with the gentoo
portage maintainer for gnucash via http://bugs.gentoo.org/ .
