Status of SQL backend?

Hi,

I'm the owner of a web hosting business. I'm currently in the middle of
developing a MySQL-based invoicing system to invoice my customers and
track/process their payments.

If the SQL backend was complete, I'd use this feature to 'bridge' the
invoices on my custom system and the invoicing system in GnuCash... that
way I wouldn't have to enter invoices manually in GnuCash.

I understand that the SQL backend is not far off completion to include
the GnuCash new features. May I ask what the current status is, and are
the devs looking for people to help out with the SQL backend? Also,
would I need knowledge of C to help with the SQL backend? I've been
coding for 9-10 years in various languages, but I've only just started
learning C. I do have a lot of experience with C-style other languages
though, especially PHP (although I know it's a scripting language).

My other option would be to have my invoicing system generate XML in the
GnuCash format which I could merge by hand, or to have it generate a QIF
or OFX file.

Many thanks,
Matt
