Resize your window (or the just the column)...  Or you can hit the
right-arrow key and move the cursor to the right and the words will
scroll inside the cell.

"when I make my amount entry"... Are you overwriting the exiting number?
Or are you entering something in the other column?   If you're entering
something in the other column, do you zero-ize out the existing number?
If the gnucash puts in a debit of $10 and you enter a credit of $5
without zeroing the $10, then yes, gnucash takes the difference and
makes the amount a $5 debit.  But if you enter a $5 credit AND zeroize
the debit column, the line will remain what you intend.

It always displays all the debits and all the credits together.  If
you're entering in a random order of debits and credits, yes, it will
move them around.  But if you enter your debits and credits "in order"
it wont move it around.
