libgnomecanvas and Intel Macs

Sorry to keep beating an ailing equine (it's not dead yet!), BUT...

I see in gnome bug list http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=339489 that
an apparent fix to this package allows gnucash to run in Mac OS X on Intel
machines. Leon says there that he "recompiled libgnomecanvas2 with -O1 and the
problem is gone."

I am tantalized by this tidbit--does this mean that GC could now run under
Intel Mac OS X? If so, please help me understand what I'd do to follow Leon's
lead. I located several copies of libgnomecanvas2.info on my drive, and believe
that the copy I should (as suggested) change is in
/sw/fink/10.4/stable/main/finkinfo/gnome (a second copy is in the same
essential location, except in the unstable tree, while there are additional
copies in the fink.old tree, which I will disregard). I even see in that file
the line where SetCFLAGS includes "-O3". If I were to change this to "-O1" as
proposed in the above bug discussion, would a Reinstall from binary for
libgnomecanvas2 in FinkCommander enable me to then install GnuCash?

Or is there a simpler way?

Or should I just keep waiting for someone else to step forward and put
something up for fink?

TIA,
David
