OK, I'm taken to task.  Thanks Derek.  Here is my latest attempt:

    $ gnucash --add-price-quotes gnucash_data/gnucashfile
    gnucash: [M] "Found Finance::Quote version ""1.12"
    gnucash: [W] "There was a system error while retrieving the price 
quotes.""
    "
    $

Any thoughts?
