Using existing accounts with new install

After a hard drive problem I now have GnuCash installed on a new drive, Fedora 
Core 4, GnuCash 1.8.12.

I copied my old accounts folder onto the new drive, and GnuCash can read them.  
However, although the 'Accounts' page shows all the correct totals, in GBP, 
the summary in the top bar and all the account reports show $0.00.

How can I get these to read in and use the correct figures?
