Good question.  I don't have a good answer I'm afraid.  I think that's
somewhat up to you as a distributor.  You may have users who are only
using 1.6-type features for which the postgres code still works just
fine (albeit it might have bitrotted a bit)..  You might have users
complain if you stop distributing it.

However for the 1.8 series you might want to put a warning into the
RPM that it's not suggested that new users use it.
