Compiling problems on OpenSuse 10.0

Wait!  You said you have glib-2.10 installed, but this list
claims you have glib-2.8.1.   The configure test is FINDING
glib >= 2.9, because HAVE_GLIB29 is set.  BUT your rpms don't
match.

What's going on here?  What have you done to your system?
