GnuCash 1.9.7 Error

   I receive the following Error dialog box when trying to open a register
   or general ledger with the 1.9.7-1 release on a DEC Alpha using Debian:
   "The Application "gnucash" has quit
   unexpectedly.
   You can inform the developers of what happened to help them
   fix it.  Or you can restart the application right now.
   Restart Application             Close"
   When I select the Restart option GnuCash tries to reload and then I
   receive the following Warning dialog box:
   "GnuCash could not obtain the lock for /home/jaw/.........
   That database may be in use by another user, in which case
   you should not open the database. What would you like to do?
   Open Anyway     Create New File         Quit"
   I can restart it when I remove the *.LCK and *.LNK files or selecting the
   Open
   Anyway option
