Gnucash on DSL 2.4

I am running this as a trial exercise.
I have a box with DSL 2.4 installed and from myDSL downloaded GTK2 and then 
Gnucash - which then fails with a library not found.
The gnucash package is marked clearly with alpha quality statements.
Has anyone had this work or would it be easiest to compile a package from 
source?
