ISO dates

Darn, I was hoping this was a common problem with an obvious fix.
Watching the status bar, typing 3 gives me "Wednesday 03 May 2006". 
Typing the "-", makes that "Tuesday 02 May 2006" and puts 2006-05-02 in 
the field. I'm running gnucash 1.8.12 and kde.
BTW continuing to type a "5" places a new date in the status bar:  
"Friday 05 May 2006".
