gnucash 2 cannot import QIC file

Dear List:

Using Gnucash 2.01 installed on a new Mandriva 2007. Attempting to
import a QIF file so I can say goodbye to Widoze and Quicken. The
application freezes almost immediately after displaying an error
message.

Am I doing something wrong. Is there a workaround? Is there perhaps
something flaky in the format that Quicken 2005 exports that I can
cleanup by hand??

As I am quite new at this, any help or hints would be greatly appreciated.
