editing a reconciled split

I have reconciled splits that I would like to edit.
I only want to edit the description and not the date, account or amount.

When I make the edit I get a dialogue warning me about my actions.
"Change reconciled split? .... Doing so might make future
reconciliation difficult! ..."

Will updating the description on the transaction/split make future
reconciliations
difficult?
How would a change make it difficult to reconcile later?
I'm just trying to understand what this message means.

Using 2.0.1 on FC5.
