that is what I think too.  And try to remove stale 'ior' files in %TEMP%
\\gconfd-$user\\lock.  Even better, assuming there is still such a file
after killing gconfd-2.exe, do some tests with it (I was not able to
reproduce problems with it on Linux).  E.g. what about the gconftool-2
commands above or are there file permission problems on that file?  Give
us something to work with :)
