Well, I seem to be stuck in an infinite loop. After re-installing the
appropriate version of slib (-3.1.1) last evening, re-creating slibcat, and
getting everything else cleaned up and of the appropriate versions, I
re-installed the g-wrap-1.9.6 package and tried reconfiguring gnucash-2.0.5.
That's when this appeared unexpectedly:

checking for (g-wrap gw-glib-spec) guile module... yes
checking for SLIB support... configure: error:

Cannot find SLIB. Are you sure you have it installed?
    See http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=347922

SLIB is in both /usr/local/lib/slib and in /usr/share/guile/site/slib. It
makes no sense to me that when I fix one reported error, rebuild and
reinstall in what should be the proper sequence, then an error that was
previously fixed reappears.

I'm quite frustrated and discouraged. This will be put aside for now as I
need to focus on work and actually accomplishing something.
