running multiple versions

I have gnucash 1.8.9 on my laptop.

I have suse 10.3 and will install whatever version of gnucash suse packages
for that.

If I share the files between each machine will there be problems making
updates to the files using different versions of the software?

I am considering putting the files on a samba share and just using whatever
gnucash is handy at the time to add transactions.
