Add report greyed out & editing posted invoices

Hi all,
I have a couple of questions:
1. What circumstances might cause the "Add Report" toolbar button to be
greyed out? I found an answer in this ML thread:
http://lists.gnucash.org/pipermail/gnucash-user/2006-August/017381.html
and i've applied it with limited success, but it appears the technique
of changing the report options and choosing apply does not work with the
Income Statement or Balance Sheet reports.
2. Is it possible to edit the splits on a posted bill without marking
that and subsequent bills unpaid? I've tried this before by unposting,
editing, and reposting, and ended up with bills that have been paid
marked as unpaid.
warlord told me on IRC: "If all you do is take a posted/paid invoice,
unpost it, and repost it (even with minor changes) then it should remain
paid. But that's NOT necessarily the case if you have additional
payments or additional unpaid invoices for that customer." I *do* have
payments and additional *paid* invoices for that customer. (Actually,
in this case, it's a vendor and a bill, but they appear to work exactly
the same.)
Is there a reliable way to edit posted invoices and keep the paid
status? e.g. Could i unpost all of the invoices after the one i want to
change; unpost, edit, & post the one in question; then repost all the
subsequent ones in order?
I'm using GnuCash 2.0.5-1 on Debian etch.
Thanks,
Paul

P.S. I must mention how much GnuCash rocks, and how helpful everyone on
IRC has been. Learning GnuCash has also helped me learn a lot about
accounting that i had forgotten (i did a one-semester course on double
entry accounting about 18 years ago when i was a first-year uni student
;-). Thanks to everyone involved with making it so great!

Did you know? Providers of on-line music services (such as iTunes)
intentionally cripple their software to make sure you keep buying from
