Use of hidden accounts.

AIUI, setting the "hidden" flag on an account makes it disappear from
the main account tree view (with the default filtering) and from the
pop-up list when editing splits.

Do hidden accounts still appear in reports (where relevant)?

I wonder whether setting the hidden flag the best way to deal closed
bank accounts and shares that I no longer own although they have
transactions that still need to appear in P&L statements (for
example).
