If that isn't it, I also seem to recall that some Windows users saw very
long delays when first starting GnuCash due to firewall issues. I could be
wrong, but I believe this was a one-time thing, and that if you just wait a
long enough, GnuCash will finally finish starting. I would suggest searching
the mailing list archives for this. (By the way, I run GnuCash on XP SP2 and
have never seen this problem. Installing Service Pack 2 and the many, many
security fixes since might help.)
