I initially missed it, but it actually isn't as essential as it seems.
In the Since-Last-Run dialog you can select the option to show created
transactions (in the lower-right, above the "ok" button). Doing that,
when you click ok gnucash will create a new tab showing just the
transactions created from the SXes. In this register you can then
edit any part of the transaction, or jump to it in another register.
It is actually more functional and consistent than the old SX wizard.

I use the same technique Tommy described. I set the reminder on the
SX so that it shows up in the Since-Last-Run dialog with status
"Reminder". I can then change it to "To Create" when I receive the
bill, or whatever.
