Ahh, now I see.

Okay, here's the skivvy. Your mail gets sent by "yourhostingaccount.com",
and in fact the address you send looks something like:
  SRS0=DU8GHa=TG=havendale.net=thomaspeterson at yourhostingaccount.com

Well, the anti-spam sender-verify system on the server tries to
verify this address, but yourhostingaccount.com closes the connection
when it receives a RSET. So what happens is that the sender-verify
tries to send to a bogus address, gets a failure, then tries to
reset the connection to try the real address, but your hosting service
hangs up on the gnucash server when it tries that reset.

So... the bug is on your hosting server. It doesn't follow the
Internet Mail Standards RFC822 and RFC2822, which is why you can't
send mail. I'd complain to your service provider and tell them
that according to RFC2822 they are not allowed to hang up on RSET
and they are violating the standards by doing so.

I'm afraid I cannot help you from my side.

Good Luck,

-derek
