Is there any way to import a list of transactions from a QIF file into

Yes. You need to use account, category, and payee/memo mappings to get the
imported transactions to go into the right GnuCash accounts. There are three
steps in the importer that help you do this. The interface isn't the
friendliest at the moment, I'm afraid, but once you've created the mappings,
they'll be saved for future imports so you don't have to go through the
whole process again. I'd suggest that you turn on the QIF documentation
pages to get more help as you go along.. Go into the preferences
(Edit->Preferences), then pick "Online Banking", and make sure "Show
documentation" is checked.

Once you've got that working, the importer will try to find any potential
duplicates and will give you a chance to review them and accept/reject them
individually.

I would also suggest upgrading your GnuCash when you get a chance. Many QIF
importer bugs have been fixed recently.

Cheers,
Charles
