I find double-line to be too much whitespace; I never use the notes line,
though, and I'm not quite sure what others use it for…?

I turned off the horizontal/vertical lines a long time ago.  I could see that
being the default.

I don't see why there's even an option for "double [line] mode colors
alternate with transactions"; it should always be on, anything else is
confusing … the colors create logically-related regions in the view, and the
"double" line is logically part of the transaction.


I think one of the single most useful defaults changes we could make would be
the default in Register view from Basic Ledger to Auto-Split.  Auto-Split
demonstrates the realities of double-entry, Split balance and the
debit/credit cells without cluttering the display too much.
